Mira B.

Our clients and the public see our Phoenix team members on the front lines most often, our amazing field staff. We also want to shine a light on our wonderful Leadership team, who help keep many things running smoothly in the background at our offices. Meet Mira Boyd, the Business Services Manager from our Springfield, MO office! She has been on our Phoenix team for 11 years now.

We asked, “How does your role help support our clients/employees?

Mira: “I help everyone with knowing their own names and co-workers names and their titles by ordering the name badges. I try to keep the office organized and stocked along with making sure everyone gets their popcorn fix. I also work with our In Time of Need Foundation which helps those that face life limiting illnesses who are suffering financially. Just knowing that we have helped numerous people with anything from rent to utilities to cremation costs, makes my heart happy. I help Phil and Kim whenever they need me, that’s the admin assistant part of the job. I really couldn’t be where I am today without Phil and Kim’s kindness and support.”

Have you taken any Culture classes? Which one did you like best? (Culture classes are available to Phoenix employees and serve to enrich career and personal growth for our teams.)

M: “I believe I have taken almost all of the classes. My favorite class is the one Terri Tucker teaches (which is all of them).”

Give us one piece of career advice.

M: “I know that one thing I think is very important in any career, is to know what each department does to an extent. I was a PDC scheduler when I first started, and since being in that position, I know how much work is involved in what all our schedulers do. When I worked front desk, I know that answering phones can be very overwhelming at times. It was only until I helped in HR, that I realize how much of a process they have to go through for a new hire. That’s just a few examples, I have many more I could list. Take the time to learn what each department does, and know that everyone is valuable.”

Who has been an important coworker/mentor in your career, and what did you learn from them?

M: “No doubt in my mind that my answer to this question is my mom and dad. As a kid I didn’t understand how hard they worked until I grew up and became a parent. As an adult I have strived to have their work ethic because no matter what, they went to work Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. Even though they had to do that, they still took the time to always have dinner on the table, help me with my home work, and took me to all my extracurricular activities. They have always supported me in my different paths and careers I have taken and they give the best advice if I need it. I definitely learned my work ethic from them and all the other life lessons in between. I am very blessed to have them as mentors and parents in my life.”

What is your favorite memory at Phoenix so far?

M: “I have so many favorite memories here at Phoenix so it’s hard for me to choose just one. My most recent memory is the annual Halloween tradition. I love that I can dress as Bob Ross, be able to have some sort of role in 3 different skits, and win the funniest costume. That’s the best memory for me because I love to make people laugh and know that it’s ok to not take everything so seriously.”

Give us a work motto to live by.

M: “Show up, work hard, be kind, and amazing things will happen. Also, don’t be afraid to laugh, even if you have a loud, obnoxious laugh like I do.”

What is one thing you can’t work without?

M: “The Master Key, or as I call it, the VIP Key.”

What are two things on your bucket list?

M: “My husband and I have talked about having a 5th wheel camper and traveling everywhere, especially to places where it’s warm and I can tan my pale skin (with sunblock of course). Another bucket list item is to go see the Foo Fighters in concert and making moshing in a mosh pit over 40 cool again.”

Tell us a little about you.

M: “My husband, Charley and I love hanging on the couch after work with our puppy dog, Cora. I have 3 kids, Kerri, Tyler, and Braden, who are all grown. I have 1 grand daughter, Millie. I love to get together with them whenever I can. I think that being able to hang with my family is such a blessing. I also love hot yoga, especially early in the mornings, which gets my day started. My mom and I have had a tradition for years and have tickets to go see the Broadway shows at Juanita K. We also have season tickets to see shows at the Springfield Little Theater. I just love music and dance. I myself cannot preform, but love to watch. I love traveling with my husband and hope to go on more trips with him as we grow old together and I get Botox to look younger.”

Whether you’re making us laugh, or making our lives easier with everything you do for our teams each day, you’re a joy to work with and we are so grateful for you!
