Meet Cynthia B., a Personal Care Attendant from our Columbia, MO region!
We asked Cynthia, What gives you the passion to do what you do?
C: “Being a caregiver isn’t just a career for me; it is the very heart of who I am and the legacy I am proudest to carry forward. Growing up as the child of Southern Baptist missionaries, I watched my parents travel and devote their lives to serving others. I saw firsthand the profound, lasting impact their compassion had on people’s lives, and that example shaped my entire world. Though they have both passed on, I feel their spirit alive in me every day as I follow in their footsteps, honoring their memory by pouring that same grace and devotion into my work. Caring for others is truly where my heart belongs. There is an unmatched joy in walking through the door each morning, eager to greet every single person in my care, knowing I have the opportunity to bring light, comfort, and purpose into their day. My deepest goal is to ensure that from the moment I step in until the time I say goodbye, I leave their lives richer, warmer, and more fulfilling than when I arrived.”
Why Home Care & Phoenix?
C: “I had several interviews that day, but Phoenix stood out right away. The interview went so well, and I felt completely comfortable right from the start. During the questioning, you could tell they were really listening to what I was saying, and that meant a lot to me.”
What would you tell others contemplating working at Phoenix Home Care and Hospice?
C: “If you’re thinking about working here, I would definitely jump on board! The team is so helpful, easy to work with, responsible, and supportive of independent work. The office staff is always right there whenever you have questions. Even when you’re having a bad day, they’ll sit and talk with you until you feel like everything is right in the world. It’s a wonderful place to work!”
What does the X Factor mean to you? (the X Factor is the personal and professional abilities of our staff to use their experience, orientation to serve, skill set, optimism, passion & honesty to bring the best care to our clients and their families.)
C: “What makes the X factor special in caregiving is the personal connection and heart you bring to the job every single day. It’s more than just completing a checklist of tasks; it’s about making sure your clients feel safe, valued, and never alone. It’s that extra touch of kindness and presence that lets them know someone truly cares about their well-being.”
Tell us a little about yourself.
C: “What do I do outside of work? But my absolute biggest blessing is my family. My three grandkids call me Grams, and I love experiencing those teen years with my 14-year-old granddaughter. The absolute highlight of my day is coming home from work and having the two youngest, three and five, waiting at the door shouting, “Hi Grams, I missed you!” It just warms my heart every single time. My daughter-in-law is the absolute best caregiver—she takes such wonderful care of my son as he battles cancer, and getting to see him every day is a privilege I treasure deeply. Beyond my hobbies like diamond dotting, I’m truly all about my family. Being there for the people I love is what my life outside of work is all about.”
