Meet Brooke, a Hospice Social Worker from our Springfield, MO region!
We asked her, “What gives you the passion to do what you do?” She said, “I began working at a long term care facility when I was 16, and my love for the elderly population began at that time! I thoroughly enjoy working with and serving those who are elderly and/or at the end of life. In my position I am able to provide education, support, and resources to patients and families during a very vulnerable, and often times stressful period in their life. My hope is I am able to lessen those stressful periods so patients and families can enjoy the quality time they have left with their loved one.”
When we asked, “Why Home Care & Why Phoenix?” she told us, “I feel people can really be themselves in their “home”, and to each person their home looks a little different…that may be a place they have called home for the last 50+ years, it may be an independent living apartment they recently downsized to, or it may be a long term care facility. No matter what their home looks like, I am able to serve them where they feel most comfortable and help them to have the best quality of life possible throughout their time on Phoenix Hospice.”
We asked, “What would you like to tell others contemplating working at Phoenix Home Care & Hospice?” Her response was, “I could tell Phoenix was different from the time I walked in for my interview! Everyone was friendly and welcoming from the start, and more than helpful when I had questions or concerns. Administration has an open door policy, and are very attentive to the team’s needs. I especially enjoy working with our team of social workers. We are a close knit group and know that we can reach out to one another anytime!”
Of our X Factor (an important element of our unique Phoenix values), Brooke says, “X-Factor means teamwork to me. It takes multiple disciplines, with a variety of skills, to make sure our patients and family’s needs are met 24/7, and I feel Phoenix does a great job of promoting this. I can especially brag on our team of fellow social workers and the Strengths-Based Approach they take with each and every patient no matter the situation.”
Phoenix has had Brooke as part of the team for about 2 years now. Her 9 years of experience in Home Care and Hospice truly add to the quality of care that her clients receive!
Outside of work, Brooke tells us, “I have been married to my husband for 28 years, and have two adult children. My daughter recently got married, so I now have a new son-in-law that has been a great addition to our family! In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, reading, kayaking, and antiquing with my daughter. I also recently rescued the cutest kitty ever, Opie (although he is very ornery!).”
Thank you for always putting our clients and others first, Brooke! We’re proud to have you on Team Phoenix!
