Meet Kassie Smith-McKee, a Chaplain, in the Wichita region!
“I view myself as a companion to our patients and their families while they’re on this journey. I love meeting people wherever they’re at and walking with them as they find their way – whether it’s in times of crisis or times of joy. It’s very rewarding to me when I can play even a small part in helping our patients find peace within themselves, or with their families, or with God, and they are able to pass away peacefully.”
“I enjoy spending time with my husband and our four year old daughter. She is such a joy and helps me keep things in perspective and have balance in my life. It’s fascinating watching her figure out the world. I also enjoy curling up with a good book and I will never say no to a good game of Scrabble.”
“I have been an ordained minister for almost nine years now. My husband and I were co-pastors for the first seven and a half years of my career. I loved serving the church, but in 2019 I decided to push myself professionally and do a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at a hospital in Kansas City (where we were living at the time). CPE is a chaplain training program. I fell in love with chaplaincy and the clinical setting. I then did a chaplain residency at that same hospital and found myself drawn towards caring for patients and families at end of life. When that residency was over, and my husband and I were moving to the Wichita area, I looked for hospice chaplain jobs. I am forever grateful that Phoenix Hospice was looking for another chaplain at the same time I started looking for a new job. I have found wonderful teammates and friends at Phoenix. I’m so proud of the work we do because the whole team goes above and beyond to make our patients and their families feel valued and important. I feel that chaplaincy is the best way that I can use my God-given gifts. I enjoy the variety of my days and caring for all kinds of people.”
