Sonya Burnes, Hospice Care Aide

At Phoenix Home Care and Hospice one of our Principles of Flight is to, “Be the Wind-Serve Others”. Today’s employee spotlight, Sonya Burnes, is a perfect example of this principle. Sonya has been with team Phoenix in Wichita for 4 ½ years and in Home Care for 28 years total.

We asked Sonya, “What gives you the passion to do what you do?”

She answered, “I have a passion for serving humanity, I’m very passionate about the care and love that I can release out to my patients and their families on a day-to-day basis. The relationship and trust that is being built on the first day is very important to me. I always ask how can I assist them to make the best possible decision involving their care. I’m very grateful for our patients and their supportive family members for allowing me to be part of this journey together and not a part. Taking the time to listen to their life journey is so heartwarming, to have an open heart and mind set that allows me to bring some sense of peace, empathy, compassion, laughter, enjoyment, comfort, love, kindness and enjoyment. I don’t look at what I’m doing as working, it’s my purpose and calling and I’m very honored to have the opportunity to share what God has placed inside of me for all the clients, residents, and hospice patients I’ve had provided care for I been truly blessed.”

Sonya, we thank you for making a lasting impact on all those you come in contact with daily. Caregivers like you are the heart and soul of Phoenix!
